The controversy began last summer in the parking lot of an Atlanta Hotel. Juanita Bynum, wife of Bishop Weeks, and prosperity preacher reported a disturbing case of Domestic Violence against Bishop Weeks. Juanita accused Bishop Weeks of brutal physical abuse caused by rage and violence.
Juanita does have some disbelievers concerning the abuse case. There are quotes in various media outlets claiming Bynum is on an “ego trip” and wants to be the next Oprah Winfrey. Basically, Bynum is using the domestic abuse case to prey on others sympathy and emotions. There was speculation that immediately after the alleged assault; Juanita Bynum began posting pictures of her cuts and bruises.
Afterwards Bynam began to rally supporters with numerous press releases and interviewing with media outlets like The Tom Joyner Show, Good Morning America, and Essence Magazine. While Juanita Bynum continued speaking out to gain the support of other abused women, Bishop Weeks remained silent until The BET news exclusive. Some thought his silence was symbolic of shame and guilt, while others thought it was spiritual empowerment.
After his debut on the BET news exclusive, I felt that he was telling the truth. They say you can tell a lot about a person by looking into their eyes. Bishop Weeks said he did not hit Bynum, however he did admit to pushing her away from him during an outraged attack towards him from his wife. Bishop Weeks also stated he believes that the reason for her accusations are greed and envy. Weeks also told BET that Juanita Bynum really wants to have her own television show and does not want to continue as a prosperity preacher.
It would not be the first time in history that a woman used a troubling situation like domestic violence to capitalize and gain monetarily from alleged accusations. If I am wrong, Juanita Bynum will have my deepest sympathy, but if I am right she should be ashamed.
